Mala Beads have been used as a tool in spiritual meditation and religious prayer for thousands of years by many different faiths. Traditionally a mala—which means “garland”—has 108 beads strung together and one “guru bead,” which is larger than the rest. The guru bead is used as a place marker for the fingers to feel for the end or the beginning of the necklace for meditation or mantra chanting.
In this 2 hour workshop, jewelry maker Chris McKinley of Kinley Jewelry will show you the process used to create your own mala bead necklace. You choose your preferred materials and your kit will be assembled for you. The choices will be posted in the comment section. Chose the one that’s right for you and that info will be taken when you register! Pre-registration is required, cost is $40 per person. Friday, March 22nd from 6-8 pm. Call (217)330-9664 with questions or to register!
